Questioning Authority in Fukushima
It’s good to see Fukushima citizens pummel Japanese government officials on the idiotic decision to increase acceptable levels of radiation for children — 20 times the previously permissible standard! That’s according to the New York Times today (link below). It’s just a stunning display of contempt for the health and well being of the people on the part of the government. The video link below from a few weeks ago is most interesting, though. You don’t have to know a word of Japanese to know exactly what’s going on. People are pissed. They are yelling. They are asking for details. They are asking for documents. Substantiation. Who made this decision? When? Why? You don’t live here, would you expose your kids to these levels? Why did you come here if you can’t answer our questions? When will we get answers? Send someone more senior. Bang, bang, bang. One after another. The smirky govt dudes have nothing of value to say while they squirm in their seats and nervously flip through pieces of paper on the desk. Insane. People have a right to be pissed. And they have a right to not believe anything puked up by the authorities. The Japanese people, along with those involved in direct rescue and rebuilding efforts, have demonstrated significant honor in this quake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster. The government and TEPCO — the suits, I mean — haven’t.

I’ve been reading your blog posts and looking at your pictures. I enjoy what I am reading and seeing. I have added you to the list of friends I keep in my favorites. I have reblogged this post with very little comment because you said what you said so well. I think I would like to come back and reblog some more of your stuff from time to time. You must have many readers perhaps I can add a few more?
